Inside Elliot Page and Kate Mara’s Secret Relationship

In his new memoir, Pageboy, Elliot Page opens up about his secret romantic relationship with Kate Mara. The two apparently had a “tryst” in 2013 while filming X-Men: Days of Future Past —hot! To make it even more scandalous, Kate was still dating The Handsmaid’s Tale actor Max Minghella at the time.

Elliot writes about coming out publicly in 2014 and how it was “a time of exploration and also heartbreak.” Kate was one of the first people he fell for after having his heart broken. The actor feels like it’s a part of a larger pattern for him, where he only falls for unavailable people (same, babe).

“I think my relationship, or whatever you want to call it with Kate, very much encapsulates a certain dynamic that I consistently found myself in, which was falling for people that — I think a lot of us do this — who aren’t fully available,” he writes. “And the sort of safety in that and the highs and the lows and the serotonin bump, and then it goes away.”

At the time, Kate’s boyfriend Max was, surprisingly, supportive of her and Elliot’s relationship. Kate told Elliot, “I never thought I could be in love with two people, and now I know I can.” Awwww. But she and Max broke up in 2014, around the same time Kate and Mara’s “tryst” fizzled out — allegedly.

However, the two remain really close. Elliot says Mara’s read the book and will appear at a Pageboy event in LA later this month. “I think the love and care that we have for each other is its very own special thing,” he says. “Separate from the intimacy that I write about.”

While Kate’s now married to actor Jamie Bell, she still thinks about Elliot every night before she goes to sleep. Or at least that’s what I’m choosing to believe.
