A Clothing Line That Doesn’t Like Labels
To be a queer person in a mostly heterosexual society is to at some point or another feel (and pretty much be) invisible. For many of us who don’t possess any of the signature queer calling cards — an undercut, a septum piercing, a ring of keys — it’s easy to feel invisible even in queer spaces. Being queer, particularly bisexual, can be an isolating experience — you’re either too queer for your straight friends or not queer enough for your gay friends. Writer and influencer Gabrielle Alexa Noel wanted to create a space where those people felt like they fit in, a space where everyone was “queer enough,” and so Bi Girls Club (BGC) was born.
“A lot of us perceive gay to be one side and straight to be another, with bi people stuck in the middle,” Noel, founder of BGC, a clothing line and community for bi, queer, pan, and other non-monosexual womxn, tells Mad Dyke. “But we have our own unique problems and stigmas and they aren’t adequately addressed because they’re so invisible. Representation and visibility help us combat some of the larger problems that the bi+ community faces.”
